High Demand Item – Frequently Reordered by Contractors
Fernco Proflex is the all-stainless shielded transition coupling for dependable above-ground pipe connections. A flexible neoprene sleeve seals the joint while a full .012″ type 301 stainless steel shield and clamp bands lock it rigid — so the connection resists shear forces, vibration, and shifting that would loosen an unshielded coupling.
From 1-1/2″ to 8″, the 3000 series joins cast iron, plastic, steel, and extra-heavy cast iron in straight and reducing sizes. Each gasket is marked with the part number and application, and the whole assembly is built from 300-series stainless for corrosion resistance.
Applications
- Above-ground cast iron, plastic and steel DWV transitions
- Connecting extra-heavy cast iron to standard pipe
- Sewer, waste and vent connections needing a rigid, shielded joint
- Repairs and remodels where a shielded coupling is specified
Key Features
- Neoprene (synthetic rubber) gasket, marked with part number and application
- .012″ type 301 stainless steel shield, 2.125″ wide
- 301 stainless clamp band and housing; 305 stainless 5/16″ hex screw
- Rigid, shear-resistant joint for above-ground transitions
- Installs with a standard nut driver or torque wrench — no primers or glue
- Made in the USA — AIS and BABA compliant

Best Used For
- Above-ground DWV, sewer, waste and vent transitions
- Connecting dissimilar pipe materials on a rigid, shear-resistant joint
- Repairs and remodels where a banded coupling needs the strength of a shield
- Commercial and residential plumbing where code calls for a shielded coupling
FAQ
Above ground or buried?
Proflex is engineered for above-ground transitions. For buried joints under heavy earth load, use a Fernco Strong Back RC shielded coupling instead.
What does the 3000 series connect?
Cast iron, plastic, steel, and extra-heavy cast iron to one another. For a transition to copper, use the Fernco 3001 series.
Why a shielded coupling?
The stainless shield keeps the joint rigid and resists shear, so the connection won’t sag or pull under vibration the way an unshielded rubber coupling can.
Why Contractors Choose This
- Full stainless shield holds the joint rigid where rubber-only couplings flex
- One coupling makes a clean material transition above ground
- No primers, glue or cure time
- Code-listed: ASTM C1460, ASTM C564, CSA B602
- Made in the USA, AIS & BABA compliant
