The Fernco 1051-88RC Strong Back is the shielded, heavy-duty version of the 1051 AC/ductile coupling — built for buried 8″ joints transitioning asbestos-cement or ductile iron to cast iron or plastic. A .012″ stainless steel shear ring and molded-in bushing wrap the PVC sleeve to hold the connection rigid and aligned under heavy earth loads and shear.
Clamp housing and band are 301 stainless steel with 305 stainless screws. Spec the standard 1051 for everyday work; spec the 1051-88RC when the joint is buried, carries load, or needs the alignment the steel shield provides.
