High Demand Item – Frequently Reordered by Contractors

The Fernco 1002 is the clay-adapter version of Fernco’s standard flexible coupling — sized specifically to transition vitrified clay sewer pipe to cast iron, plastic, or steel. The stepped sleeve takes the larger clay outside diameter on one end and the smaller CI/plastic OD on the other, for a watertight no-hub joint with no primers or glue.

The sleeve is molded from elastomeric PVC that resists chemicals, UV, and normal sewer gases, locked down with 300-series stainless steel clamps. Sizes are listed clay side × cast iron/plastic side. Stocked 4″ through 24″ in straight and reducing configurations.

Applications

  • Connecting vitrified clay sewer pipe to cast iron, plastic or steel
  • Repairs and tie-ins on older clay sewer laterals and mains
  • Underground sewer and drain transitions
  • Reducing between a clay size and a different CI/plastic size
  • Fast no-hub connections without primers, glue or solvent cement

Key Features

  • Stepped elastomeric PVC sleeve sized for clay-to-CI/plastic transitions
  • Two 300-series stainless steel clamps, corrosion resistant
  • Leak-proof, root-proof, resistant to chemicals and sewer gases
  • Connects same or different pipe sizes and materials
  • Made in the USA — sizes 15″ and below are AIS and BABA compliant

FAQ

How are the sizes listed?

Clay side first, cast iron/plastic side second — for example, 6″ Clay × 4″ connects 6″ clay pipe to 4″ CI or plastic.

What does it connect?

Vitrified clay pipe to cast iron, plastic, or steel. For a buried joint under heavy load or shear, step up to the 1002RC Strong Back shielded version.

Can it go underground?

Yes — rated for below-ground sewer and drain use, conforming to ASTM C1173, ASTM D5926 and CSA B602.
