Apollo Ball Valve Series Comparison — Which Series Is Right for Your Job?

Apollo Ball Valve Series Comparison

Apollo makes dozens of ball valve series. Picking the wrong one costs time and money — wrong pressure rating, wrong material, failed inspection. This guide cuts through the catalog and tells you exactly which series to use for common commercial, industrial, and press applications.

Quick Reference: Apollo Ball Valve Series

Series Body Ends Pressure Best For
70-100 Bronze FNPT 600 WOG Commercial plumbing, potable water, HVAC
77W / 77V Bronze/Brass Press-fit 600 WOG ApolloPress copper press systems
76-100 316 SS FNPT 1,000 WOG Corrosive media, chemicals, high pressure
76F 316 SS FNPT 1,000 WOG Full port SS, high-purity, food/beverage adjacent
83 Series Carbon Steel Threaded/SW/Flanged 1,000 WOG Industrial process, steam, oil & gas
86 Series 316 SS Threaded/SW/Flanged 1,000 WOG Industrial SS, corrosive process, high-purity
89FV (PowerPress) Carbon Steel Press-fit Varies Carbon steel press systems, HVAC, chilled water
86V (SmartPress) 316 SS Press-fit Varies SS press systems, pharmaceutical, food service
90-100 Bronze FNPT 400 WOG Gas service, fuel, compact installations

Commercial Plumbing: 70-100 vs 77W vs 82LF

Use 70-100 when you're threading into NPT pipe. The industry standard for 1/4"–3" commercial plumbing. NSF 61/372 certified, 600 WOG, two-piece body. This is the valve 90% of commercial jobs specify.

Use 77W when you're on a copper press system (ApolloPress). Same bronze body, full port, same certifications — press-fit ends instead of threads. Eliminates soldering on isolation valves.

Use 82LF when you need a three-piece body in lead-free bronze for larger sizes (2-1/2"+) or for applications requiring a full-port serviceable valve with end-entry access.

Industrial: 83 CS vs 86 SS vs 87A/88A Flanged

Use 83 Series for carbon steel pipe in threaded or socket weld configurations — process piping, compressed air, steam, oil and gas, chemical plants. Three-piece, full port, 1,000 WOG.

Use 86 Series when you need 316 SS in a three-piece body — corrosive fluids, high-purity processes, chemical handling where carbon steel is not appropriate.

Use 87A / 88A for flanged end connections in ANSI Class 150 or 300 — larger industrial piping 2" and above where flanged isolation is preferred for maintainability.

Press Systems: PowerPress vs SmartPress vs ApolloPress

ApolloPress (77W/77V) — Copper press. Used with ApolloPress copper fittings on domestic water, HVAC, and commercial plumbing. Standard M-profile press tool.

PowerPress (89FV) — Carbon steel press. Used with PowerPress carbon steel fittings for chilled water, hot water, HVAC, compressed air, and fire suppression systems. M-profile press tool.

SmartPress (86V) — 316 SS press. Used with SmartPress stainless steel fittings for pharmaceutical, food service, laboratory, and other high-purity or corrosion-sensitive applications.
