Where Each One Wins
Choose EvoSeal MS when…
- The work is commercial/industrial — glazing, curtain wall, EIFS, movement joints
- You're sealing EPDM roofing or metals (aluminum, Kynar, steel)
- The assembly sees temperature extremes (-75°F to 220°F service range)
- You want more product per tube (10.1 oz vs 9.5 oz) and very low VOC
- You're consolidating with your firestop and PVF order
Choose OSI Quad Max when…
- You're sealing exterior siding and need a precise color match (4,600+ options)
- The joint needs maximum movement — ±50%, Class 50
- You want the fastest paintability (about 1 hour)
- The spec or GC names OSI by brand
What They Have in Common
Both are advanced hybrid-polymer (MS / SMP) sealants — the modern category that gives you the waterproofing and flexibility of silicone with the paintability of acrylic, without the trade-off. Both meet ASTM C920, both are UV- and weather-resistant, both apply with a standard caulking gun in cold conditions, and both are paintable after cure. For most exterior perimeter and joint sealing, they're functionally interchangeable — the decision comes down to movement requirement, color matching, temperature range, and what the spec calls for.
MS / SMP hybrids solve the classic dilemma — silicone won't take paint, and acrylic caulk cracks under joint movement. A hybrid does both. For prefinished colored cladding, use a color-matched bead and avoid heavy tooling or feathering, which can reduce UV and movement performance. On joints deeper than 3/8", use a backer rod.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is EvoSeal MS a direct replacement for OSI Quad Max?
They're the same class of product — advanced MS/SMP hybrid sealants meeting ASTM C920 — so for most exterior perimeter and joint sealing they're interchangeable. If the joint requires ±50% (Class 50) movement or a specific siding color match, account for that.
Can it be painted?
Yes — with latex paint after about 2 hours. Unlike silicone, hybrid sealants accept paint.
What substrates does EvoSeal bond to?
EPDM roofing, aluminum, Kynar-coated metals, PVC, vinyl, steel, glass, marble, brick, concrete, and wood — making it strong for glazing, metal, and roofing details.
How much joint movement does it handle?
±25% per ASTM C920. Quad Max is rated higher at ±50% (Class 50), so for high-movement joints verify the design against the rating.
Can I apply it in cold weather?
Yes — down to 30°F, with a wide service range of -75°F to 220°F once cured.
